If you are in need of a mammogram, you may want to consider getting it completed prior to getting your COVID – 19 vaccine.  The vaccines that prevent COVID-19 can cause swollen lymph nodes under the arm where the shot was given. Your lymph nodes are part of your body’s germ-fighting immune system. The swelling in the lymph nodes is a sign that your body is responding to the vaccine and building up defenses against the virus and should not cause concern. If a mammogram is needed you may want to schedule your diagnostic imaging exam 6 to 10 weeks after your second COVID-19 vaccine dose. If you need a diagnostic imaging exam that includes axillary lymph nodes for routine surveillance and screening, talk to your doctor to see if it is medically appropriate to delay the exam for 6 to 10 weeks after your COVID-19 vaccination.
